Arts, Music and Leisure - Developing wider interests

Wherever appropriate children enjoy out of school visits to back up their educational programme.

Visits have included such diverse activities as:-

  • Acting as Victorian child labourers, brick making at Blists Hill Museum
  • Constructing bird hides at Coombe Abbey
  • Pond dipping at Kingsbury Water Park
  • Elizabethan role play at National Trust localities

Naturally all visits are carefully planned with the health and safety of our charges being of paramount importance. Our Y6 pupils also experience a residential weekend which allows them to try out activities such as abseiling, archery, go-karting and aero-ball. The weekend also extends their ICT skills. All our out of school activities aim to enhance classroom work and to promote social skills such as listening, sharing and working together.

Within school we have a programme throughout the year which brings experts into school. Thus we enjoy annual visits from a theatre company, animal rescue service, assembly teams, local authors and book fairs. Children can also choose extra- curricular activities provided by visiting teachers e.g. speech and drama, piano, guitar and ballet. These are available at additional cost, please contact the school for details. Infant children can also choose swimming as a costed extra-curricular activity, while Junior children swim as part of their curriculum at no further charge.

Junior children may select from a variety of clubs provided by school staff. These have included activities such as painting, technology, first-aid, drama, musical drama, chess, sewing, football and netball.
